Private Bass Lessons

I have been a student of the bass guitar for over 25 years and love learning more about the instrument every day.  I have taught thousands of lessons and have excellent student retention.  I guarantee that you will have a good time studying bass with me!

My typical private bass lessons cover a variety of topics: effective practice, reading standard notation, TAB and Charts, fretboard studies, chords, understanding tempos and meter, scales, modes and associated music theory as well as improvising, soloing, popular slap techniques, walking bass lines, tapping and other flashy stuff too if you want to go there.  I incorporate melodies of well known songs in your studies and work on individual and ensemble music projects as well as performance opportunities.

Basic Computer recording is also covered in private lessons.

Kudos and Reviews!

" ...as a player and also a teacher I am always on the look out for great music books for my students and for myself. Jim Hickey's book is very well put together and very user friendly. I really enjoyed it and have been using it with my own students. Thanks Jim"

Ben Mauro, Music Instructor, Lead Guitarist for Lionel Ritchie, and has a smokin' new CD out from his band 13 Curves!

"...I have this book called "Jimmy's Got A 4 String" which is an instructional book for bassists. Great info for those of you who want to excel past the whole "3 chord" thing that seems to plague rock music"

Eric Vanlandingham

"Very cool! Entertaining, accurate, and obviously a labor of love."

Patrick Denniston, Manager, DR Strings.
